Fantasia Barrino takes on the starring
role of Celie in the Broadway musical
The Color Purple. This acclaimed role
marks her first-time performance in a Broadway production.
“I felt good and I did my best,” Barrino said of her debut.
“I went out there and said, ‘I’m going to do my best and
I’m going to give my all.’ I could look out in the
audience and tell that a lot of people were touched.
That’s the biggest thing for me.”

Since Oprah Winfrey announced last
February that Fantasia would take on
the leading role in the production,
ticket sales have reached $6.5 million.
