Michael Eric Dyson has a new book entitled
"Know What I Mean?", Know What I Mean? addresses salient issues within hip hop: the creative expression of degraded youth that has garnered them global exposure; the vexed gender relations that have made rap music a lightning rod for pundits; the commercial explosion that has made an art form a victim of its success; the political elements that have been submerged in the most popular form of hip hop; and the intellectual engagement with some of hip hop's most influential figures.
In spite of changing trends, both in the music industry and among the intelligentsia, Dyson has always supported and interpreted this art that bloomed unwatered, and in many cases, unwanted from our inner cities. For those who wondered what all the fuss is about in hip hop, Dyson's bracing and brilliant book breaks it all down. About the Author Michael Eric Dyson, a University of Pennsylvania professor, has been named by Ebony as one of the hundred most influential black Americans, and is the author of twelve books, including Come Hell or High Water. He lives in Philadelphia. Jay-Z has an intro in the book & Nas covers the outro.

Kanye West with his mother Donda
at a signing for her book 'Raising Kanye',
at Waterstone's in Piccadilly, central London
today...

Kelly has more photo ops....

...and appears on Jimmy Kimmel Live (poor thing)

I saw the performance & the girl is really
trying to make her vocals stand out, but in order
to do this, she can not continue to perform "Like This"
it got so bad that she actually started singing that track
that she was featured in with Nelly, I must admit she has
that down pat, but that song is not going to help her
record sales. Love the jean jumper!!! Eve also appeared
on the show with her BTW.

KELIS BREAKS IT DOWN FOR THE LADIES

The singer and reality show star shows why she’s the ultimate wife.
As told to Justin Monroe

Men Say: You don’t need to know how many women I’ve slept with.
Kelis says: That’s OK I guess, as long as I’m not made to look stupid, like
all the girls are still around and you all have this little secret without me.
If they’re out of your life and you did it and it’s over, I don’t care.

Men say: Spending three months’ salary on an engagement ring is
obscene!
Kelis says: In every other culture there’s something that has to be given,
whether it’s camels or cows or sheep or whatever. In our culture, it’s the ring.
It’s supposed to be an investment, a show of love, your promise to take care of
this person, to be faithful. So I think three months’ salary is the bare
minimum—it can be even more. We deserve that.

Men say: Watching porn is not cheating.
Kelis says: If a guy just does it for fun once in a while or uses it to
interact with his girl, that’s cool. Do I like it? I don’t love it, but I don’t
really care. Every guy has porn, but anything in excess is a problem—like if you
have to have it, you should think about that. That’s revolting.

Men say: I don’t have to say “I love you” all the time—my actions speak for
me.
Kelis says: That annoys the hell out of me. I feel like you should just say
it. Men are not communicative enough. Sometimes I do agree that actions speak
louder than words, but I think your words are also important in a relationship,
just as a little pick-me-up.

Men say: I have sexual fantasies that my woman just wouldn’t
understand.
Kelis says: If a man really desires something sexually, he should be able
to bring it up in a way that’s not gonna scare the crap out of her but make her
want to try it, for him. I don’t think it’s fair for him to say, “She won’t get
it, so I’m gonna go get it somewhere else.” That’s foul, because you didn’t even
give her a chance.
